How Oklahoma's premier healthcare facility uses storytelling to position its image
with Scott Coppenbarger, Director of Marketing and Community Relations, OU Medical Center

With 4000 employees serving a dynamic patient population in the state’s largest urban medical facility, managing public relations is an unpredictable task. Scott Coppenbarger explains the challenges and approaches to positioning the public image of Oklahoma’s premier health care facility.

Scott Coppenbarger

Scott Coppenbarger is director of marketing and community relations at OU Medical Center and The Children’s Hospital at OU Medical Center. Pretty much everything can be explained with a good story. It’s Scott’s approach to marketing and public relations and in all effective communications. It was his bread and butter during 23-years in broadcast journalism and remains essential in his second career in public relations and marketing. From the board room to a team huddle, Scott knows the art of influence is to find agreement between a business goal and an audience it hopes to reach. The best bridge is through effective storytelling and messaging. This philosophy earned Scott several awards along the way, including a prestigious Edward R. Murrow award and kept his wife and two grown kids healthy and satisfied along the way.
